Sunday School Retreat & Teachers Retreat
The humble beginning of the Sunday school with 28 students was in 1995 to facilitate scripture study of our children who did not have this facility in Sharjah at that time. By God’s grace, the Sunday school has grown steadily and is having more than 245 students on the roll at present with 37 teachers and Mr. Sunil George as Headmaster. A Sunday School Committee was formed in 2007 with one year office term to manage the matters and its current Secretary is Mrs Alice Shibu. Sunday school day and Balajana perunaal are being celebrated on the first Friday of every November. To generate awareness among the children about the need of supporting the poor and needy children, a special collection is made on this day and presently we are sponsoring Children of Bethel Ashram Tiruvalla, Trichur and Madangalli Andra Pradesh.
“Let the children come unto me” Mt.19: 14.
The Sunday school is the primary activity of the Parish to bring the children to Jesus, in obedience to His command, by teaching them the word of God. Accordingly the C S I Sunday school Sharjah was started in Oct.1995, well before the parish was officially stared. The humble beginning of the Sunday school was with 28 children and 5 teachers. By God’s grace the Sunday school grew steadily, and with earnest efforts of the teachers and the full co-operation of the parents now there are 255 students on the rolls of our Sunday school.
The Sunday school academic year is from January to December. Children in the age group 4 – 17 years are admitted to the Sunday school, and the classes are from Pre-school to Inter-mediate. Children’s work books and song books are provided free of cost from the Sunday school. Sunday school is conducted on Fridays immediately after the Church Worship Service, from 10.30 AM. Refreshment is provided before the school starts. To encourage the children to attend the Sunday school regularly attendance prizes are awarded. Annual examination is conducted at the end of the academic year and prizes are awarded. Quiz competitions are conducted for Bible knowledge development. To encourage the children to develop their God given talents Talent Competitions are conducted and prizes are awarded. Also many other talent development related programmes are organized.
Sunday school is headed by Headmaster and assisted by teachers. There is a committee on the administrative side, the Vicar being the Ex-officeo President, the Headmaster Ex-officeo Vice-president and ten teachers elected as committee members. The Parish provides necessary financial support for the Sunday school.
VBS is conducted every year in March – April for 7 – 9 days in which children from other denominations also participate. Transportation is arranged for the children to attend the VBS regularly. Well trained VBS Directors are arranged to conduct the VBS effectively.
Children also contribute enthusiastically towards charity, both in Sunday school as well as in VBS, and these contributions are distributed to the children’s charity institutions as well as missionary work under CSI back in India.
Our prayer is that our Lord Jesus may take each of these little ones in His mighty hands like clay in potter’s hands, to mold them and make them as useful vessels in His household. Pray that the Sunday school be a tool in this regard.
Praise the Lord.
